Get the maximum amount of your Security Deposit back! Use this handy list when you clean.
KITCHEN:
Clean oven, racks and burner drip pans (sometimes easier to buy new drip pans-- they are inexpensive). If the range is ceramic top, be sure to use only a ceramic top cleaner, otherwise damage may occur.
Clean range vent.
Clean refrigerator inside and out. Clean condensation pan. Turn off and leave open to defrost. Do not use anything to scrape away ice, as it could puncture the freezer lining. Turn back on when done.
Remember to pull out appliances and clean the sides and floors.
Clean the cabinets and drawers (inside and out)
Clean windows, frames, tracks and sills.
Wash trim (floor, door and window trim).
Wash walls around the range (they get greasy) and bathroom.
Clean switch covers.
Wipe off hand prints on doors.
Clean faces of all appliances.
Check around for any other obvious items that need cleaning (light fixtures, baseboard heaters, shelves, nooks).
Replace any burned-out lamps.
Clean floors last
BATHROOMS:
Clean bathtub (including tub door & tracks, if any), toilet & sink. Bleach works well to clean mold and mildew quickly.
Clean medicine cabinet, under vanity, inside drawers and closets.
Clean mirror, light fixtures, switch covers.
Clean trim and doors
Check for other items (baseboard heaters, towel bars…) Clean floors.
REST OF HOUSE:
Start high and work down, sweep away cob webs.
Clean light fixtures, windows and window tracks,
Wash down doors, trim, switch covers and baseboards.
Clean all window, blinds, curtains and drapes. Note that some window coverings will require dry cleaning.
Make sure all belongings and debris are removed from the house,
Vacuum and have carpets cleaned.
GARAGE and YARD:
Make sure all items are removed from garage, Sweep down walls and floor.
Walk around the yard and verify all belongings and debris are removed.
Mow lawn, rake leaves.
Have keys and a forwarding address ready for the Move-Out Inspection.
Security deposit balances are usually mailed within 2 weeks of the inspection.
